Many years ago, before the ubiquity of touchscreens, a friend and I wanted to see if we could build a touchscreen table rather than get adequate sleep through the semester.
We did. It was buggy, but it was ours.

The reasonably-functional end product was used to showcase motion graphics work at the CCS student showcase at the end of the term and was summarily tossed in the garbage when we didn’t collect it in time.

Built with rear-projection screen, silicone, xylene fumes, IR leds, Processing, anxiety, and love; about 60% of the work was getting the physical components to function and interface accurately with the code we were building.
